Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY gotten rid of the smell of rotten potatoes from a kitchen cabinet?
I had a bag of rotten potatoes leak onto my shelf-paper lined cabinet. I changed the shelf paper, but the cabinet itself absorbed the smell, along with all the plasticware I store there. Soaking in vinegar water got most of the smell out of the plastic, but I cannot do anything about the cabinet itself. I've heard lots of ideas, but I'm looking for someone who has actually had success. thanks!
Answer: One way is to simple empty out the whole of the cabinet, and get a solution of hot water with a strong disinfected and give it a good wash out, then change the water and give it a good rinse out, or try pouring neat bleach straight onto the the shelf, after you have empty the cabinet and wash it out with hot water, again rinse it well.
From: pour white vinegar on it. let sit a few minutes and wipe off. do again. wipe with clean water and dry. sand the wood down to remove the stain and spray polyurethane on it. coat again when dry. any smell still there after vinegar will be sealed in with the polyurethane
